Literacy Center Fun!!
During my literacy block, I begin with whole group instruction. We have been reviewing our letter sounds to a letter land song, "who let the letters out?" The kids love it and are really picking up on all the sounds. Students then break into their center groups and enjoy the five different stations. Shh they don't know they are learning!!

Thinkers, sketchers, and writers
Mrs. Jones has been guiding us as writers this week. We learned to first think about what we're writing. Then we draw a picture of what we are going to write about. Finally, we do our best to sound out words and write! When our writing time is over we either put our work on the red dotted side or green dotted side of our folders. If we are done with our writing piece it goes on the red side. If we want to continue working on it another time, it goes on the green side. Mrs. Jones taught us that sometimes "when we think we are done, we've only just begun!" This reminds us to check over our writing when we think we are finished, and see if we can add more to the picture or story. We are becoming creative writers!
Little pumpkin scientists
Today we were scientists and made predictions how many seeds are inside the pumpkin. Stay tuned to find out which scientist in Miss Quinn's class was the closest!

Meet the teacher night
It was so great to meet most of my new students and their parents tonight! The students got comfortable right away touring the room and finding the toys:) I gave the kids a scavenger hunt to find important places around the room(their desk, cubby, calendar, etc) and most importantly they had to find the treasure box at the end to claim their prize! For parents who could not make it, not to worry. We always welcome volunteers at lake Myra or we can arrange another time to meet.

Welcome to Kindergarten!
What a great first quarter at the lake! Mrs Powells fourth graders were a wonderful group to start the school year off with. While she may not be ready to leave her baby Josie, she is excited for me to pass on her students to her. I strongly encourage them to stop down on the first floor and visit me in my room, my very own room!!
I'm extremely excited to be starting in kindergarten for quarter two. I was able to hop around the kindergarten rooms over the past couple months, so I will be a familiar face to many of my new students. I will be holding a "meet the teacher night" on October 18th at 5:00-7:00pm. Hope you can make it!!

Who can beat the teacher?
We had a fun run at school. Students and teachers in every grade ran for twenty minutes. The goal is to try to get as many laps as possible...some students goal was to try to beat me! Parents donate money for every lap their child runs. It's a fun school activity and great way to raise money.
Piggy pancakes
I had a great first quarter with the fourth graders, covering for a maternity leave. Through out the quarter we did reading buddies with kindergarten(and some of my soon to be students). Our last day with them we read a loud, "If You Give a Pig a Pancake" and then made piggy pancakes. We frosted pancakes with pink cool whip, made a banana slice as a nose, chocolate chips for eyes, and strawberries for ears. I think it's safe to say, it was a hit and we ate like pigs!!
